SYP Organisational Structure

The Scottish Youth Parliament is made up of young people aged 14-25 from across Scotland who represent constituencies and national voluntary organisations. The SYP has capacity for 2 Members of the Scottish Youth Parliament (MSYPs) per Scottish Parliamentary constituency and a further 50 from national voluntary organisations. You can find out about the current MSYPs by checking out the Find Your MSYP section. Each MSYP can become a member of one of the SYP's ten Subject Committees, details of which can be found in the Committees section.

At the organisation's Annual General Meeting (usually held in June), MSYPs elect, from amongst their number, a Chair, Vice Chair, and four Trustee Directors - these young people form the Board of Scottish Youth Parliament. Our Trustees are responsible for the strategic direction and governance of the organisation, as well as being the employers of the SYP's staff team. You can find biographies of our current trustees in the Our Trustees section.

Each of the Subject Committees elects a Convener, who collectively form the Conveners Group, which co-ordinates the SYP's campaigns and consultations. MSYPs with an interest can get involved in the Events Group, which helps plan our National Sittings and other activities or the Procedures Group, which keeps an eye on SYP's procedures and practices.

Finally, the SYP's Board employs a central team of staff, based in the SYP Office in Edinburgh, to deliver on the work identified. The SYP's General Manager ireports to the Board of Trustees, in turn, manages the SYP's other staff. You can find out about current staff in the Our Staff section.
