"Our Scotland" Manifesto: 2007-2011

In the run up to the 2007 Scottish Parliamentary elections, the Scottish Youth Parliament produced a manifesto designed to highlight the views of young people to elected decision-makers.

Unlike traditional manifestos, the SYP had already asked its constituents for their views before it was published. In a process beginning almost a year before the election, the Scottish Youth Parliament began consulting with young people to inform the manifesto's content, culminating in a ratification process which saw over 6,000 young people directly respond. Of the 50 policies suggested in the initial draft, 48 received the support of more than 50% of the young people consulted and therefore made it into the final manifesto!

The manifesto guides the work of the SYP in the four-year period between Scottish Parliamentary elections. The SYP has now begun the process of creating the next manifesto, which will replace Our Scotland and cover the period 2011-2015.
