myMANIFESTO, You Decide

The Road to the Manifesto

The Scottish Parliamentary elections in 2011 might seem a long way away, but here at the SYP we’re already planning to make sure that the voices of young people are heard loud and clear, through the production of our youth manifesto. Last time around, we directly involved over 6,000 young people in the production of the manifesto and this time we’re hoping to smash that figure, aiming for closer to 15,000!

To do that we need to decide what ideas we consult young people about. During the weekend of the June Sitting, MSYPs will decide which 50 ideas go forward to Scotland’s young people to do just that!

myIDEAS – Keep ‘em coming!

myideas Firstly, we’re looking for your ideas for how Scotland could be changed for the better!

The deadline for sending in your idea is 31st May, so keep your ideas coming and your idea could be presented to Scotland’s politicians in the run up to the 2011 Scottish Parliament elections!

Send your ideas to myideas@syp.org.uk, post them on our Facebook Wall by clicking here or post them on Twitter including #syp in your tweet.

Please note that all ideas must be submitted by 31st May at the latest – to allow us to get down to a manageable number before the June Sitting, we won’t be accepting ideas at the Sitting itself.

Manifesto Motions

Following on from the success of Members Motions debates at the last few Sittings, we’ve put together a special Manifesto session of the popular debates. MSYPs will present four issues that they care about and think you should too. If the majority of MSYPs agree they’ll move onto the next stage of the process.

100 to 50 – You decide!

MSYPs will break into groups to decide which ideas will go out for consultation following the Manifesto Motion debates. Shortly before the Sitting, the Conveners Group will whittle down all the many ideas we’ve received from MSYPs and other young people, existing SYP policy and ideas from partner organisations to a shortlist of 100 possibilities. Together with any of the Manifesto Motions that pass, they’ll form the main stage of the process, where you’ll decide in your groups which 50 make it to the consultation stage.

On the Sunday, MSYPs will also decide which of the 50 statements goes to which survey – to make it easy to consult with young people we’re splitting the ideas up into five themed 10-question surveys.
