The Scottish Youth Parliament discusses many things, but we are united in a belief that the opinion of every young person matters (even if we disagree with some of the opinions). We believe that freedom of speech is an essential quality in a democratic society and we exist to ensure that young people are not only free to speak, but when they do there is someone who will listen to them.

Because the SYP is a small charity and all of our Members are volunteers, we can really benefit from having the support of individuals and organisations - we don't expect that any will agree with us on every single thing we say, but we hope that they'll support our right to say them.

What do we expect of our supporters?

  • A commitment to involving young people in the decisions which affect their lives
  • Advocating the involvement of young people in any process over which they have an influence
  • Participating in discussions with the SYP designed to improve the organisation; we genuinely want to make this organisation even better at representing the views of young people - help us do it!

What DON'T we expect?

  • Agreement with any or all of the statements made by the young people of the Scottish Youth Parliament
  • A financial commitment

I believe in democracy - what next?
