On the 27th of June 2012 the Scottish Youth Parliament hosted a Reception in Committee Room One of the Scottish Parliament. The Reception, titled 'The Impact of the Scottish Youth Parliament', was designed to allow parliamentarians, academics and sector organisations to learn more about the work and outcomes of the Scottish Youth Parliament.
The reception was opened by Neil Bibby MSP, who also sponsored the event. Neil spoke about the work of the SYP, and went on to introduce the programme.
This was followed by the SYP's Annual Report - a video presentation highlighting the recent work accomplished by the Scottish Youth Parliament.

Following the report, there was a video from Aileen Campbell MSP, Scottish Government Minister for Children and Young People, who gave her apologies and support for the reception.

This was followed by a presentation by Dr Mark Shephard, Senior Lecturer in Politics at the University of Strathclyde. Dr Shephard had supported the development of the report 'The Impact of the Scottish Youth Parliament on its Former Members', and spoke about both the report, but also comparisons between Youth Parliaments across Europe as well. This was followed by a speech by John Loughton. John is a former SYP Chair, and is now Director of youth leadership social enterprise Dare2Lead, and he spoke about how being a member of the Scottish Youth Parliament had given him some incredible experiences and played a huge role in his professional development.
This was then followed by a Question and Answer session where Grant Costello, SYP Chair, Rae Cahill, SYP Vice Chair, and Andrew Deans, SYP Health and Wellbeing Convener, took questions from the audience.
