Upcoming YoYP2018 events
The Brexit Event
Friday 13th April 2018 (rescheduled), in partnership with Equality and Human Rights Commission (EHRC)
@ North Ayrshire
The Scottish Youth Parliament (SYP) and the Equality and Human Rights Commission (EHRC) are partnering to deliver this Brexit-themed event for young people in Scotland. The event, funded by EHRC, offers a significant opportunity for young people (aged 14-25) from across Scotland to explore the impact of Brexit on children and young people’s rights, and will address three themes:
• What is the current situation in relation to children and young people’s rights?
• What do young people want children and young people’s rights in Scotland to look like post-Brexit?
• What needs to happen to make sure children and young people’s rights reflect what young people want to see in Scotland?
The event will complement, expand, and inform important work on young people’s rights and Brexit that both EHRC and SYP are currently undertaking.

At this Sitting, which will be hosted by North Ayrshire Council, MSYPs will debate motions to create new SYP policy, will meet in their Subject Committees to discuss issues within their specific subject area, and will take part in workshops to feed into live policy-making processes.
Young People's Rights Review
Wednesday 18th April 2018, in partnership with the Scottish Government
@ Dynamic Earth, Edinburgh
This event, funded by the Scottish Government, gives MSYPs the opportunity to use their unique democratic mandate to ensure young people’s voices are at the heart of the Scottish Government’s Children and Young People Rights Action Plan, which is due in 2018 – one of our Right Here, Right Now campaign objectives!
At the event, MSYPs will engage directly with Scottish Government Ministers, senior civil servants and officials to inform, commend and recommend policy on young people’s rights. Through this event, MSYPs will be helping to hold the Scottish Government to account for their young people’s rights obligations – a key part of the human rights based approach to policy-making.
