Recruitment

The Scottish Youth Parliament aims to be a collective voice for young people across Scotland. The organisation is a charity and a limited committee which has 14 directors, all young people, elected from amongst the membership at our Annual General Meeting. These directors set the strategic direction for the organisation and employ all staff.

The Scottish Youth Parliament is not party-political.

Most jobs with the SYP are about participation, not politics; although we do have people employed to deal with policy, we have more staff dedicated to managing our office and supporting Members of the Scottish Youth Parliament (MSYPs). Whatever your specialism, the SYP could have opportunities for you…

Our Recruitment Process

The recruitment and selection practices of the Scottish Youth Parliament are non-discriminatory and consistent with the requirements of equality and employment legislation and nationally recognised good practice. All appointments are based on merit.

Every vacancy advertised is based on an employee specification which describes the experience, knowledge, skills, competencies and qualifications we require. If applying for a position, look at the information attached to the job carefully so that you know what the job involves and the range of expertise required. If you meet our requirements, we would encourage you to apply.

Please do not send CVs or requests for paid positions as we cannot keep these on file – please see current vacancies for a list of available positions.

Completed job applications should be returned to rob.g@scottishyouthparliament.org.uk.

Cautions, Rehabilitation and Criminal Records

Generally speaking, posts with the SYP are considered to be exempt from the provisions of the Rehabilitations of Offenders Act 1974, though this will be detailed in the application pack. All employees will be required to submit to a Criminal Records Bureau check.
